Spamming friends

I just sent this to about 100 folks, so I might as well spam the web, too:
In just over a week I’m going to be participating in a charity event to help the National MS Society. Here’s a little blurb from them:

Information Management, version 2

Great quote from Shelley Powers: “Technology driven for the sake of technology and not the people using the technology will never been anything more than a minor nuisance at best, and a disliked, and unused or incorrectly used technology at worst.”
A colleague recently asked me what all the “Semantic Web” fuss was about. I […]

Sniper

Aaaah! He has a gun!

Annie’s Frozen Custard

Today’s Trailnet ride was in Edwardsville. The return leg used some of the MCT
trails and they’re beautiful. The long route was labeled 45 miles, but everyone’s computers registered at least 50. That’s 132 for the weekend and I’m done for.
metrics:
distance: 50 mi
average: 16.9 mph
max: 31 mph

Upstream again

Rode up the Mississippi to Elsah today. Charming little village with public restrooms and cold water. The river level is amazingly low below the dam. I don’t know if it’s related, but the large barge traffic jam in the Chain of Rocks Canal was a sight. I also encountered wild turkeys […]

Glow

I encountered a new (to me) local band at The
Lot this evening: Glow. I was impressed enough to pick up their CD, Gabriel, with some familiar looking cover art.

Digital catastrophe

Last Friday my hard drive crashed. I had spent some time in the weeks prior discussing how to best back up its contents, as my photo library and email archives have grown too large to readily be burned to CD or transferred over the Internet.
After a number of failed attempts, I managed to get […]

Kitchen K

Kitchen K opened today in the Merchandise Mart storefront, with the coolest address in St. Louis. The space is dramatic without being distractingly trendy; the menu isn’t extensive, but is eclectic, with a wide range of styles (and prices). Finally, as expected of the founders of Hot Locust, the food is tasty and […]

Vocation

Today my younger brother Kurt reports for duty at the Society of Jesus. He’ll immediately begin his two year novitiate at Grand Coteau and be largely out of contact with the rest of the world (myself included) at first. I’m extremely proud of him, not only for the tremendous courage required in discerning […]

Downstream

Just returned from three nights in New Orleans and one in Memphis. Quite an enjoyable trip, I’ll fill in details later. Maybe.
