London wrap-up

Central London is clean, approachable, and the locals are more polite and friendly than you could imagine. Not sure I could stay, though, with smoking being so prevalent and most socializing centered around drinking at pubs.

Paris at week’s end

Saturday’s breakfast was a bag of small pastries near Hôtel de Ville. Then we were off to Notre Dame and the punishing climb to the top of the south tower. Many, many more photos.
The hotel was able to hook us up with Moulin Rouge reservations, but only as part of a package including […]

Paris in the springtime

HVAC was broken in the hotel, se we slept with the window open. This would have been pleasant if we were higher, but on the 1st floor (2nd by US parlance) those charming sounds of the city cut our sleep short.
Breakfast in the hotel, then on to Tour Eifel for the views and a […]

We strolled up to Buckingham to watch the changing of the […]

A London (and Oxford) Weekday

This morning we were swept into rush hour Tube traffic. Quite an experience, the crowds are as dense as any I’ve seen in NYC or Paris, but have that Chicago-like observance of personal space.
A quick trip to Pret on Picadilly for breakfast and we were off to the Tower. It is a must-see […]

Bank Holiday

It turns out that today was a Bank Holiday Monday (seemingly unrelated to May Day) so everyone was on holiday and the attractions were as busy as ever.
Starbucks again this morning, because it was convenient (read: ubiquitous). Somehow this doesn’t feel as inauthentic as eating at any of the numerous McDonalds, KFCs, or Pizza […]
