If he’d just checked his manual— right there in Deuteronomy 6:16, and later in Matthew 4:7— he’d know: Do not put the Lord your God to the test. You wouldn’t like Him when He’s tested.
New favorite passage, found whilst looking for this one: Leviticus 22:24: “You must not offer to the LORD an animal whose testicles are bruised, crushed, torn or cut. You must not do this in your own land, and you must not accept such animals from the hand of a foreigner and offer them as the food of your God.” I wish I’d known that sooner.
