A sad day for primates

The Zoo had to euthanize my adopted animal on Tuesday. Kristan gave me parentship of Junior at Christmas with a plush orangutan that looks strikingly like him and hangs in my office.
I’ve decided to celebrate Junior’s life by joining the Orangutan Foundation International.

Soulard’s Restaurant

After a random selection aided by Sauce Magazine, Kristan and I discovered Soulard’s Restaurant. It was a bit classier than expected, but the food was excellent from fried spinach to Kristan’s London broil to my creole salmon pasta (creole in more than flavor, salmon with cajon spices is a culinary pidgin). Highly recommended […]

Let there be light

How many Bush administration officials does it take to change a light bulb?
None. There?s nothing wrong with that light bulb. There is no need to change anything. We made the right decision and nothing has happened to change our minds. People who criticize this light bulb now, just because it doesn?t work anymore, supported us […]

mediaARTS

Whatever happened to mediaARTS? The video wall still broadcasts away from the A.D. Brown building, but the memory
wall would be even better.

Hoosierweight

My father took me to the South Broadway
Athletic Club for Hoosierweight Boxing last night. It was quite an experience, culminating with Thomas Crone losing the World Championship title he won from organizer Steven Fitzpatrick Smith in Smith’s backyard.

Ichiban

Ichiban on Olive is a quaint little sushi place. I’ve only been twice, both recently, and had good experiences, although the usual rolls are a bit small and dull, the premium specials are typically much larger and tastier. Others who visit more often note that consistency is a concern, but they keep going back, […]

White Christmas

Sam Kashy officially made White
Christmas at the American Theatre an annual event yesterday. This year, the Gateway Men’s Chorus opened with a good program, and the cabaret seating and diverse crowd makes for an enjoyable time. I’m declaring this a tradition.

Giving

We just got back from shopping for the St. Patrick Center Christmas Sponsorship, which I learned of through the Residents Association, and I realized I hadn’t used my little soapbox to promote it. It’s probably too late this year, but if you live in St. Louis, please consider participating next year.

Iron Barley

Thanks to repeated praises on the StLouIST when it opened in June, we finally visited Tom Coghill’s Iron Barley tonight. All the reviews were accurate, this is the sort of neighborhood atmosphere and genuine cuisine that Applebee’s mocks. It’s great to experience a smokey restaurant where the smoke comes not from cigarettes but […]
